Well, the PDK Carrera S is simply a heck of a lot faster than the manual. This makes for two tests of the PDK hitting 118 MPH trap speeds in the 1/4 mile (the other being Car and Driver). The quickest and fastest the manual has gone through the 1/4 mile that we have seen is 12.7@113. We will likely see quicker and faster manual numbers than that but the PDK is clearly the superior performance option. ...Published on 01-26-2012 02:51 AM
The Panamera GTS was just unveiled at the LA Auto Show a couple of months ago. Pretty impressive that Akrapovic already has an exhaust system available for it. The exhaust is basically a rear section but one lighter than stock being made of titanium. It is valved meaning it the exhaust is compatible with the factory sport button used to open the valves for extra growl. We are waiting on further details from Akrapovic such as the weight, power gains, and the suggested retail price. ...Published on 01-24-2012 11:16 PM
The Infiniti M35h is pretty impressive. We showed you a comparison between it and the Mercedes E350 Bluetec where the M35h absolutely trounced the Benz. It seems that Infiniti now wants to claim it has the fastest production hybrid sedan in the world and set out to create a video showing the M35h going head to head with the Porsche Panamera S Hybrid. Now, we have a couple big problems with this video and think the outcome shown is highly questionable. ...Published on 01-24-2012 02:50 AM
The first generation 955/957 Cayenne was a controversial move for Porsche. The success of it can not be denied however. That success led to Porsche developing the second generation 958 Cayenne which was released in 2010. The second generation has already surpassed the 100,000 unit mark in record time with not even a full two years of production under its belt. The Cayenne is here to stay and a huge success allowing Porsche to continue to build some of the greatest sports cars in the world. Well done Porsche, here is to another 100,000! ...Published on 01-21-2012 09:01 PM
Wald International, a Japanese body kit maker, has turned their attention toward the Porsche Panamera. This is their Black Bison kit which is a widebody. It includes a new front bumper, fenders, sideskirts, and a new rear bumper as well. Wheels designed for the kit are available as well. We think the kit is a little bit too busy and takes away from the sophistication and elegance the Panamera should have. ...Published on 01-20-2012 10:53 PM
The recent reveal of the 981 Boxster naturally leads to questions about the upcoming 2013 981 Cayman that will be based on it. The motor and transmission offering will obviously mirror the Boxster so what everyone really wants to know is what the car will look like. Our graphic designer Wild-Speed did a rendering of the back and front and we must say the vehicle looks superb. The new Boxster has been received very well and the new Cayman will likely be no different if it looks like the images below. ...Published on 01-19-2012 05:02 AM
The Porsche 918 Spyder is still on track. As most of you know, this is going to be a hybrid supercar. The gasoline motor recently received an upgraded from the originally proposed 3.4 liter in the concept to a 4.6 liter V8 with 543 horsepower based on the motor in the RS Spyder LMP2 race car. This motor combined with two electric motors will make for a total output of 720 horsepower which will move the projected 3700 pound car nicely. Definitely a hybrid no car enthusiast is going to laugh at. ...Published on 01-17-2012 11:43 PM
AutoExpress spotted the new Porsche 991 GT3 testing. The car should be available in 2013. AutoExpress states the vehicle will have no PDK, be lighter by almost 100 pounds, and offer 450 horsepower from a 3.8 liter. It would seem Porsche may be leaving room for another 4.0 RS model with more horsepower. There are conflicting reports on the PDK as AutoExpress states the car will be manual only like the 997 but EVO reported that the GT3 will get a PDK and 470 horsepower. Time will tell who is right, we hope for a PDK. ...Published on 01-16-2012 09:12 PM
This news is not all that surprising and comes hot on the heels of Volkswagen announcing the VW Bluesport Roadster (which this Porsche roadster would have shared its platform with) was delayed indefinitely. Porsche believes it needs to wait a generation as this car would likely eat into Boxster sales and it is currently focused on getting its entry level Cajun SUV out. Disappointing to say the least but it keeps the premium brand upscale. No telling how this will affect Audi R4 prospects which also was to share this platform. ...Published on 01-15-2012 02:51 AM
The 996 turbo is a very popular modification platform. Used vehicles are a great value and a lot of power can be extracted from the twin turbo flat-6. Increasing displacement is certainly an option as well with 3.82, 3.86, and and 3.94 displacement options for $6500. The stroker kit obviously includes a crank as well as rods and pistons. The crank is made out of billet 4340 steel and is lighter than the stock crank. Full specs below. ...Published on 01-14-2012 02:50 AM
This is the 911 GT2 R Flat by Albert Motorsport. The flat part obviously coming from the roof which has been chopped. The vehicle actually began life as a 996 and not a 997 as it appears. 997.2 lights were added and the pillars were cut to give it a very sleek appearance. The vehicle is not just for show as it will be raced and is making its debut at a 4 hour endurance race. A very cool build resulting in a unique 911. ...Published on 01-11-2012 08:20 PM
You have to love the internet. Makes waiting for details in magazines or at shows seem outdated. Case and point, we already have pictures of the new 2012 981 Boxster before it is officially revealed at the Geneva auto show. And boy, does it look good. While the 911 continues to be held in the past styling wise due to Porsche purists the Boxster continues to evolve without constraint. The car looks much more aggressive than it did previously with excellent updates to the front and rear lights. The side intakes also give the car a new hint of aggression. ...Published on 01-10-2012 09:46 PM
We all know the Carrera and Carrera S are just the beginning for the 991. Porsche is going to roll out the usual variants over the next several years. The cabrio has already made its debut but what we are truly waiting on are the Turbo, GT2, and GT3. These details come from EVO who states the 991 Turbo will come as a 2013 model offering a modest boost up to 520 horsepower. After the Turbo, we should see the next generation 991 GT3 in 2013 which EVO states will get a PDK transmisison as well as 470 horsepower. And the big daddy GT2? Expect it in 2014 with around 600 horsepower fed through a PDK transmission to make for a flat out beast. ...Published on 01-10-2012 01:32 AM
Many of you are familiar with Caractere who is a Belgian company that makes body kits for Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi. They recently launched the Caractere Exclusive brand which will focus more on higher end luxury vehicles. Their first offering is for the 958 Cayenne and is a widebody kit that includes wide fenders, revised front and rear bumpers with diffusers, and a roof spoiler. 22 inch Caractere CW1 wheels finish out the package which may be the best looking aftermarket offering for the 958 Cayenne today. No word on pricing. ...Published on 01-09-2012 01:40 AM
This is a comparison that with the previous generation 997 Carrera S people would laugh at having. Well, the new 991 Carrera S has raised the bar considerably. We knew the PDK version would be faster than the manual but we were not expecting 118 traps out of the box and almost a full second improvement (and 5 MPH) in the 1/4 on the manual version. That makes the 991 Carrera S with PDK just as fast as a 997 GT3 despite having less horsepower and more weight, impressive. ...Published on 01-04-2012 08:20 AM
The next generation 981 Boxster won't be unveiled for at least 3 months as it is expected Porsche will show it then at the Geneva auto show. Well, spy photographers managed to snap a shot of the interior completely undisguised. Nothing shocking, just like the 911 it takes considerable influence from the Panamera. Really, one would be hard pressed to be able to tell the difference between the new Boxster and 911 interior if it was not for the shape of the vents and the position of the Sport Chrono clock which seem to be the main differences. ...Published on 01-04-2012 12:36 AM
Most of you should know that Porsche attempted to takeover Volkswagen and failed in its attempt to do so. The attempt backfired when the global economic crisis hit and VW ended up swallowing up Porsche. So, what is the problem? Well, investors in Porsche lost approximately $3.2 billion in the failed takeover attempt. Turns out, they want that money back. A lawsuit was filed in Stuttgart alleging that Porsche gained control of VW stock building large derivative positions secretly which could cover all of VW's traded shares. Porsche then supposedly released the shares they controlled worth billions of Euros. ...Published on 12-29-2011 10:31 PM
TPC racing does excellent work. They pretty much are the De facto Cayman turbo option offering bolt on kits to built motors as you see here. They drop the compression to 10.0:1 with their forged pistons and bore out the block. They add their forged connecting rods as well and the new internals paired with their turbo allow this Cayman to hit 515 whp. It is interesting to see how much displacement Porsche left on the table in the block which the stock displacement was no doubt chosen to protect 911 owner's egos. We can't wait to see what the upcoming 4.3 liter version does. ...Published on 12-28-2011 11:42 PM
Switzer builds some very strong cars. Their Porsche and Nissan GTR packages in particular offer some powerful options. This is just a basic 997 GT2 tune that anyone can upload themselves. It comes with the connection capable and a BMC filter as seen pictures below. You download your stock tune, e-mail it to Switzer, then they e-mail you a tune for your car. This is all done automatically through your computer and turn around time on receiving your new tune is about a business day. The baseline was 512 wheel and the tune brought it up 543.94 (544 rounded up). Very nice, simple, and effective. ...Published on 12-28-2011 02:01 AM
Here is an awesome Porsche naturally aspirated 6 cylinder battle. The new 991 Carrera S sporting less displacement and horsepower but with a PDK dual clutch transmission versus the lighter and more powerful 997 GT3 RS 4.0. Unfortunately, they only video the speedometers accelerating and do not show an actual head to head race between the two which is a major letdown. Still, a nice comparison and the 991 holds up surprisingly well until the horsepower of the GT3 RS 4.0 takes over. ...
