      We don't know what is going on. All wheel drive M5's? We thought BMW was getting back to their core values but it seems they are all over the place still. Autocar reports that their BMW source has confirmed the M5 will get all wheel drive in the near future. What does this mean? Well, it means the M5 is going to get heavier but if there is a market for the Panamera turbo no doubt the M5 with all wheel drive will find its buyers as well. The M5 is set to be revealed this year at the Frankfurt Auto Show, the AWD version should be officially introduced months after that.

        Is it really that much of a surprise. Won't they basically just transfer over the X6M/X5M awd system. They already are just transferring the powerplant over.

        AWD is the main reason why i'm going BMW instead of a 2012 Dodge Charger SRT-8. Like I said before a 2012 AWD M would be the perfect used car upgrade in a few years. I might start saving now before I even get the N54! Click here to enlarge

        The price difference between the two is like $50k.

        My options were a brand new 2012 SRT-8 or a 2012 AWD M5 quite a few years from now. Not sure if a price comparison is relevant between a new car now and a used car in the future.

        If BMW is the best hamburger you've every eaten, then Dodge is all the fatty chemical meat slurry that McDonald's adds to the "beef" it uses to make children pine for Happy Meals. (Excluding Viper, of course.)

        I mean I agree that AWD M5 would be very different from the roots of the M division but just like all great things, they should be flexible to the demands of their clientele. On the other hand, I also agree that a company can't flip flop between multiple view points. It feels like BMW lately, especially the M division, is like that drunk girl you see trying to find her way to her room. Hopefully they will eventually find some ground, but I will say this: making new and different advances in cars is what BMW does best and hopefully this isn't another 5er GT...plus an AWD M5 would be fun as hell to drive once it's tuned with FBO

        Heh, one of the funniest ways I have seen to characterize M. How about while trying to find her way to the room she also is jumping on anything whether it looks good or not?

        So, then, in the USA, happy times:

        1) According to Mr. H. Boeriu over at BMW BLOG, the states won't see M5 release until early 2012.

        2) According to pictorial evidence floating around different BMW blogs, at least one M5 stick shift mule is being driven around the US as we speak.

        3) According to rumor, the M5 is no doubt also the first///M Car slated for a carbon ceramic brake kit option (currently an $8150 option over at Porsche USA) which would replace otherwise supposedly mandatory blue brake trim, 6-pot fixed calipers front & single-pot floaters on the rear. (I'm sure this "mandatory blue" is a tease-the-public rumor; I'm less sure why a balanced car like the M5 would be sent to market with a fixed/floating unbalanced brake setup as it's been seen wearing. Obviously, the set-up will drive more folk to buy the CC brake option, a few feeling manipulated, and those who know nothing about these things will just buy & drive.)

        So, June next or thereabouts, I should be able to take European Delivery of a stick-shift X-drive carbon-ceramic-braked monster ///M5 in either Havanna Brown exterior with black accents & wheels / Sakhir Orange-black full leather trimmed with brown wood, unless I choose a sweet alternative involving Java Green or Velvet Blue Metallic with a Champagne interior trimmed in light wood trim.

        All I have to say is AWESOME!

        i think carbon ceramic brakes aren't necessary, M never had problem with braking.
