• DCT Build Part X - Final machining of SSP oil pan

Last week we brought you the initial pictures of the build process for the DCT oil pan. You saw one side of the pan and some users asked about seeing the other side. Well, here are the final machining photos revealing the completed pan. As you can see, there are fairly deep fins cut into it for cooling as well as a custom M logo specifically for the BimmerBoost M3. Hey, that's how we roll.

        Yes, when it works.

        Yes.

Since this is the DCT build thread, can you elaborate on the transmission/clutch/DCT roadblock?

The DCT build is *IMO* the most unique and interesting part of the build. I doubt I am the only reader sharing that opinion.

I'd love to hear more about the road blocks.

Sticky --- How's the break-in/low boost going? Can we expect a full write up once everything's confirmed for 100%

The break in and low boost isn't the problem. The problem is the SSP clutches currently and it is not software related, it's hardware. We'll see what happens but I honestly would be better off with the stock clutch packs at this point. What a nightmare.

Click here to enlarge well that sounds like a fairly serious setback

I am sorry to hear that. I am a fervent 6mt guy but the DCT system fascinates me. I want to see it at full potential.

That said, is SSP coming to the rescue with something re-designed? Or are you getting the "use at your own risk - S.O.L." kind of answers from them?

My guess is you fused something - hopefully clutch packs and not something internal.

Good luck. I want to see this bastard run.

EDIT: + rep for you Joe for giving out some technical updates.

I mean a simple solution is just a stock clutch basket. But I mean what a waste of everyone's time.

Don't know yet Alex says Kris@SSP is not answering his calls. Not a good sign...

No, definitely incorrect guess. The clutches just slip. I mean it's really some kind of mechanical error or hardware that needs to be fixed. It may be an honest mistake. Only way to know is to get in there but I would definitely like SSP to fix this.

I mean if SSP can't or won't then basically stock clutches and I'll need to find someone who actually can do it. I'm not writing SSP off just yet it's up to them right now how they would like to handle this.

Dang. That sucks Sticky. Is this similar to what Drew had with the clutches?

Lets hope SSP steps up with a solution. I'd give them a few days to chew on it before crucifying them.

Sorry to hear this. I know what kind of a hassle this can be. Not with the DCT specifically but with unforeseen issues that just eat up time. I hope this all gets taken care of and it goes smooth for you.

EDIT: went on the SSP site and they list these clutch disks for sale. Have they done this on any cars other than yours @Sticky ?

I don't know I don't talk to him and would not particularly care to.

I don't know what the rush is in all honesty. I want it done right not just sloppy and fast for the sake of the internet.
