    • M157 Twin Turbo V8 to go under the hood of the new 2012 R172 SLK55 AMG?

Spy photos of the next generation SLK55 have been making their way around the web. What caught our attention is that the photographers have been reported the motor the motor sounded like the twin turbo M157 V8. What does this mean? Well, it means the next generation AMG SLK may be ridiculously potent and an SL AMG usurper. Will Mercedes go this far to produce a 500+ horsepower SLK? We hope so.

Those rumors about the 5.5 NA V8 in the C AMG Coupe proved false...

Where is this 5.5 liter NA motor? Haven't seen it and neither has anyone else thus far. I'm starting to like the chances of a twin turbo V8 making it under the hood, even if it is the smaller displacement one which is more likely.

I would be stoked with either the M156 or M157.

If it does get the twin turbo motor though... I think I could get past the girly sort of image for the SLK.

if they put M157 in SLK ,why would someone get SL63/65 or even SLS if he's interested in performance ?
        doesn't make sense

Because Mercedes has balls, that's why.

They put the M156 in the C class and people still buy the E, right?

The SLS isn't comparable, it is more an exotic.

I mean hey, we know they will do an AMG version. I'm thinking maybe the rumors are incorrect on it being the M157 and it may in fact be the M278 at around 420 hp or so. Even if it gets the smaller twin turbo V8, it will be a hell of a little car. They just need to make it look manly.

No, it's a naturally aspirated version of the new M157. I'll post up a tech article on it, I've been wanting to do it.

They didn't, this is an old thread. The people early on seeing the V8 confused it with the M157.
