    • Car and Driver compares the 1M coupe against the TT-RS and Infiniti IPL G37 - Picks the 1M

We have our first direct comparison of the TT-RS vs. the 1M Coupe. Car and Driver picked the 1M as their car of choice over the TT-RS and the Infiniti. Frankly, the Infiniti didn't belong in the comparison being much heavier and slower than the other two. What is shocking is they time the TT-RS at 12.1@113 through the 1/4 mile which is quicker than the R8 V8 and hitting 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds. Car and Driver may have picked the 1M, but the TT-RS is what impressed us.

What a BS thread. The 1M is the better car. I would go as far as saying that the 1M is equal or better than my M3.

Interesting article - the 3.6s on the 0-60 is somewhat unbelievable but I'll buy it considering the 1M is RWD vs AWD - even though the 1M has more tq and weighs just about the same. (LC I guess?) Anyways, the TT-RS, as sick as it looks is too quiet. That LC video shows just that, but maybe it was a poor recording.

I am not surprising that C&D picked the 1M though, always a BMW bias with them, more or less...the TT-RS is surprisingly quick in the 1/4th....12.1?! That's crazy. WTF is that infiniti doing in there?

Only thing that sucks is the TT-RS won't have the DSG in the United States.
That is because you seem to be all about straight line speed. Me, i build performance cars where straight line speed comes second and third to handling and fun factor.

All in all, i am beginning to see BMW's point for whoring the M brand with their turbo tech engines. The only thing i still really dont like is what seems to be the notion that a less efficient engine can make due because of turbocharging.

The I brand will come to realization to us as well. Just look at gas prices.

If you look at the 5-60mph times, the 1M beats the Audi 5.0s vs. 5.2s. They also note the Audi is soulless around the track (hmm, sounds like things I've heard about another high HP awd car)
I'm not surprised about that. The Audi will understeer at the limit and is nose heavy.

The 5-60 time will be tougher on the Audi due to less displacement and likely more lag.

The TT-RS was faster but the 1M is more fun to drive.

Bmw made a mistake even releasing the 1M honestly with the motor that sits in it. It would be great for them to release a M1 mid engined light weight car at say around 3,000lbs using the s65 motor bored&stroked to 4.8 li making 500 or so bhp with an updated dct trans. That would be something to wow over.
What is going on with you GG? This post sounds like what I would write.

The 1M is the car more fun to drive, the TT-RS is the better performer, and you don't have an M3 FR305.

The TT-RS had the faster lap time as well....

I do enjoy power and straightline speed, definitely, but also the whole package or I would not have an M. I don't care only about straight line speed, just the TT-RS numbers are pretty overwhelming stock. The car is faster than an R8 V8, come on.

It is called a k04 just a different type/part number, as your s4 has the option of 2 k04's they're still different than a k04 for my gti as the same with the ttrs.

Yeah but its only that fast due to the transmission. The U.S. wont be getting that transmission apparently, so no 3.6 0-60s or crazy fast quarter miles with low trap speeds.......

Transmission does play a part, but would the manual not be ahead as well? I'm not so sure but we will see.

You are right, the TT-RS won't have these crazy fast times here and that is a shame as those numbers are so impressive.

The manual most likely would still be a little faster due to the amazing AWD of the Audi, but not by much I would imagine. It will be up to the driver, I really like the Audi, but Car and Driver makes it sound like its super boring. I guess they are just hella bias towards the BMW.

I don't think it is that they are super biased toward BMW, just likely that the Audi is in fact super boring. It's numb, understeers, and is nose heavy, simply facts. Still, it performs awesome.

So kinda like an RS-5. It drives itself according to most magazines. IDK why Audi does it this way, almost like the GT-R, just a robot. I agree on the performance part though, can't wait till the U.S gets it and see some APR tunes.

AWD and nose heavy weight balance will do that. It is just Audi's style and why BMW's have been so much more fun to drive for so long.
