BimmerBoost has really been the only site critical of BMW's latest moves. We are seeing a disturbing trend of the M brand being watered down with the badge thrown on everything in sight. We have seen M cars get bloated with weights spiraling out of control and electronics dominating the driving experience. BMW is losing comparison after comparison. It finally took the latest "special" edition M3 to get a major auto blog to call out BMW for the same thing we have already been saying. Jalopnik says BMW just launched a track edition M3 that offers no performance improvement over the standard car. Sound familiar? ...Published on 07-10-2012 02:01 AM
This is no real surprise coming hot on the heels of the official reveal of the CLS Shooting Brake. The AMG version sports the familiar M157 twin turbo 5.5 liter powerplant putting out 525 horsepower and up to 557 with the optional performance package. Just like the standard CLS Shooting Brake / Wagon, this vehicle will not be coming to the United States. Unfortunate as this would be the king of performance wagons having great style matching excellent performance. For now, US fans have to admire from afar. ...Published on 07-10-2012 12:33 AM
Here is a video created in Italy as a tribute to the BMW 1M. The 1M is a very special and rare car in Italy first of all being expensive and secondly with only 80 examples (having ceased production) making it to Italian soil. Drifter Mattia Santino Merli decided to display some hoonage (a term denoting aggressively flogging a car for fun) in the video below. Before anyone asks, much of the footage comes from the closed off Monza circuit and not public streets, as it should be. ...Published on 07-10-2012 12:11 AM
The Audi R8 is currently getting a facelift but it will eventually see a brand new model to replace it in 2015. Road and Track rendered what the replacement may look like and shared a few details. A twin turbo six cylinder is likely as it will likely be the 3.0 TFSI motor once it drops the supercharger for a pair of turbos. Additionally, a hybrid is in the works which is no surprise with how hard Audi is pushing hybrid performance after the recent victory of their R18 Hybrid at Le Mans. For now, treat this all as speculation but it sure seems to be the direction the R8 is headed. ...Published on 07-08-2012 11:51 PM
Congratulations to Porsche and drivers Patrick Long and Jorg Bergmeister for their first place finish at the NorthEast Grand Prix held at Lime Rock in Connecticut. This marks the first victory for Porsche of the 2012 season and is the first win since 2011 at Laguna Seca. The GT class fight was very tight with cars swapping positions up until the very end with the four lead cars within less than a second of each other in the final 15 minutes. ...Published on 07-08-2012 09:01 PM
RedBull Racing's Mark Webber took the checker flag after an exciting weekend filled with rain that turned dry on race day. In front of 120,000 fans that braved the rain, Webber managed to take first spot from Ferrari's Alonso with four laps to go. Alonso managed to dominate the race, putting 12 sec between him and Webber at one point, but that lead disappeared with Alonso's fading tires. Webber's teammate Vettel managed to claim 3rd after jumping drivers through well placed pitstops. ...Published on 07-07-2012 10:59 PM
The Audi R8 5.2 V10 in stock form shares the exact same motor as the Lamborghini Gallardo. Both cars do not have the same horsepower rating however with the Gallardo LP-560 rated at 552 horsepower. The R8 on the other hand is limited by the factory software to not step on the Gallardo's toes to 518 horses. This means there is plenty of power to unlock with a tune to bring the car up to Gallardo specs and then some. ...Published on 07-07-2012 08:54 PM
The Cadillac CTS-V is a very strong car. With it's supercharged LSA 6.2 liter V8 it put outs a respectable 556 horses. It is necessary to mention the CTS-V in this video is stock and automatic. On paper the advantage is in the Caddy's court versus the M5 with its smaller naturally aspirated motor. What this race video below shows however is how potent the S85 V10 in the E60 M5 truly is especially on the top end. ...Published on 07-07-2012 07:12 PM
What Boba Motoring continues to do with their MK2 Golf is simply astounding. As if it was not enough that this is the fastest Golf in the world recently running 8's in the 1/4 mile (8.89@165) they decided to take it up to the 200 MPH mark setting a top speed record for the Golf. They actually turned the boost down for this run to 2.6 bar (37 psi) from the 55 psi used with the large Precision turbo for the record 1/4 mile run. If they want to, they have the power to easily exceed the 200 MPH (322 km/h) they hit. Check out the video below. ...Published on 07-07-2012 01:13 AM
Kind of an odd piece of news considering Mercedes recently took the new A45 AMG off the table for the United States. Instead of getting the high performance hot hatch we are were all craving Mercedes is going to give us a Tesla powered all electric B-Class. This will be a front wheel drive only car as well. For those wondering why the motor and batteries will be supplied by Tesla, Daimler owns a 4.7% stake in the company. On the bright side this will open the door for more cars coming to the United States from this A, B, and CLA platform which these models all share. ...Published on 07-07-2012 12:27 AM
This on again off again Volkswagen takeover of Porsche is finally taking place after some creative Porsche financial maneuvering saved almost $2 billion in taxes. With that extra $2 billion put toward the deal it allows Volkswagen to purchase the 50.1% of Porsche stock it does not already own for the sum of $5.61 billion. Porsche and VW stocks shot up on the news making this a lucrative deal for everyone involved. VW will officially take control August 1st and the long back and forth saga finally comes to an end. ...Published on 07-06-2012 07:30 PM
These special edition M3's are becoming basically pointless with a new one seemingly released every week offering nothing more than already available packages with some different paint and interior accents. This M3 is $70,995 and basically amounts to a standard M3 with individual paint, alcantra trim, and the already available competition package. This M3 can join other useless "special editions" such as the M Performance M3 for the UK and the Competition Edition for the USA. ...Published on 07-03-2012 08:30 PM
Introducing the Agency Power 991 Carrera S bypass pipes which are a nice and cost effective upgrade for the 991 Carrera S which save weight and add power. The baseline dyno was done on a Mustang Dyno and shows 344 rear wheel horsepower. The car is a PDK and this is less than we have seen on dynojets which is fairly common with Mustang dynos. The bypass pipes add 14 horses at the wheels which is certainly a nice gain. Graphs and video are below. ...Published on 07-03-2012 07:22 PM
Well we are pretty disappointed with this piece of news. This model was shaping up to be a great entry level tuner platform in the Mecedes lineup. A 340+ horsepower all wheel drive hatchback with a dual clutch transmission that is also priced competitively. Mercedes simply said the following, "There are no plans to offer the A45 in the U.S." The Audi A3 will remain unchallenged by Mercedes or BMW in the United States for now. Bummer. ...Published on 07-02-2012 10:06 PM
Here is a race between a mildly modified C6 Z06 running an Akrapovic exhaust and LG Super Pro longtube headers. The M3 has the ESS-VT2 625 supercharger kit and it is a 6-speed manual car. The Z06 does a pretty good job hanging in there considering the power disparity and that the M3 got a slight jump. We would love to see a few more runs but it is impressive to see a 6 speed M3 do well against a modified Z06 as it has pretty much only been supercharged DCT M3's getting the wins against Z06's. ...Published on 07-02-2012 08:23 PM
We thought the idea was a little odd but the final product does not look bad at all. Introducing the "Shooting Brake" CLS which we will refer to as a wagon because that is exactly what it is. This model will likely be popular in Europe which has a fascination with wagons similar to the United States fascination with SUV's. Those two different outlooks also likely means this car will not be coming to the United States. Expect an AMG version of this car to come as well making for one of the baddest all around wagons on the planet. ...Published on 07-02-2012 02:22 AM

Mercedes continues to excel in the 2012 DTM season. They were already in first place in the manufacturer standings heading into today's race and with the victory plus finishing in 3 out of the top 5 spots they have extended their lead on Audi and Mercedes considerably. BMW had a fine showing taking two spots on the podium with 2nd and 3rd place finishes. BMW will now pass Audi who had a poor race with only one top 10 finish for second place in the manufacturer standings. ...Published on 06-30-2012 10:28 PM
We took the car out and ran it's first few full passes. We flat out just overpowered the tires on all 6 passes. PIR does not prep it's track at all and it was a very ugly cold day. We tried dropping tire pressure until the car was extremely loose at the top end. We also have to install NOS to spool the turbo at the line and we just haven't gotten around to it yet. Next time out we will start adjusting the suspension as well. ...Published on 06-30-2012 10:15 PM
We have built a good amount of M156/M159 SLS engines and have had a few request for build photos. This same engine build is the foundation for a larger horsepower SLS package that we will be releasing soon. Also installed are one of the first few sets of M159 CNC ported heads we have released. We will be updating our website with details in the near future. ...
