So Audi is coming out with an RS7, no surprise. The surprise is that the RS7 is going to take the spot of what would be an RS6 sedan in the North American market. If you want Audi's twin turbo 4.0 TFSI motor aggressively tuned in a lighter body than the S8 the RS7 is going to be the only way to get it in the United States. This is somewhat of a downer as the C7 A6 body style is very attractive and some prefer it to the "four door coupe" A7. ...Published on 12-30-2012 12:10 AM
The BMW S1000RR is a flat out badass bike, hopefully everyone is aware of this. You don't have to go accelerating to top speed speed to have some fun as the video below shows. It's a "Gymkhana" style take with slow motion and running over objects what is impressive is really the level of control the rider has with such a powerful superbike. Said rider being professional stunt rider Jorian Ponomareff so it goes without saying to not try this at home. ...Published on 12-29-2012 10:40 PM
This Audi and BMW rivalry sure is heating up. BMW is holding onto a global sales lead although it is not all that large of a lead. Audi announced it intends to spend $17 billion to catch and pass BMW. They have the money, as the VW group is making so much it almost seems like they are printing it. Chief financial officer Axel Strotbek stated, “We will keep investing large sums to pursue our growth strategy. The expansion of our global manufacturing infrastructure will help us to continue growing.” ...Published on 12-29-2012 10:21 PM
Congratulations to M3ntal on putting down a very impressive 1/4 mile run with his stock motor 996TT. You may remember this car dyno'd 717 wheel horsepower on the stock motor with E85 at 22 psi. For this run the car was running 22psi and E85 along with FP30R turbos with the tune coming from Roshan Patel. The end result is a very stout 10.3@136 1/4 mile run. The car also appears to be converted to rear wheel drive. ...Published on 12-29-2012 09:30 PM
The stock AMG throttle body is a point of restriction on M113K motors especially in the W211 E55 AMG where the car is deliberately given a smaller throttle body than its counterparts such as the SL55, CL55, and S55. The E55 received a 74mm throttle body from the factory throughout its lifespan while other 55 AMG models with the same motor had an 80mm throttle body. The Weistec throttle body is at 82 millimeters. ...Published on 12-28-2012 01:10 AM
Here are the latest spyphotos of the next generation F15 X5 testing. The SUV will continue to be built in the United States and what is interesting is that it would appear production might begin as early as August of next year. The N20 is likely to make it under the hood so the X5 will have a four cylinder option. Other engine choices will be as they are now with the N55 turbocharged six for the xDrive35i and the N63 V8 (likely the technical update version N63tu with 450 horsepower) for the xDrive50i. ...Published on 12-27-2012 11:40 PM
Users who read this site are performance enthusiasts who definitely like to press the gas pedal down from time to time. We are all guilty of it but sometimes it's how you do it. A guy in a 996 GT2 on the highway runs into an F13 M6 and wants to play, understandable. New BMW with a twin turbo V8 and the Porsche owner wants to see how he stacks up. The only issue is the amount of traffic on the highway and how both guys start weaving in and out. ...Published on 12-27-2012 09:13 PM
Audi simply continues to impress with their 4.0 TFSI motor. Just a couple months ago we saw how potent the S8 with the 4.0 TFSI is capable of 11's in the 1/4 mile stock with an 11.8@118.3. The A8L long wheel base with the standard 4.0 TFSI motor at "only" 420 horsepower is no slouch either. Edmunds testsed the A8L and recorded a 0-60 of 4.2 seconds (S8 does the same spring it in 3.5) and 1/4 mile of 12.5@110. ...Published on 12-27-2012 04:51 AM
Autocar UK reports that the new W205 C63 AMG will not receive the M157 twin turbo V8 found in all the new 63 AMG models. Instead, the new C63 is supposed to get a downsized 4.0 liter V8 with twin turbos. Spyphotos of the W205 C63 AMG testing were accompanied by reports of twin turbo V8 power under the hood but that was thought to be the M157. A V8 with turbos is under the hood, just seemingly not the one we were all thinking. ...Published on 12-27-2012 04:19 AM
This is a continuation of an article first posted on AudiBoost back in October. Just goes to show how far magazines lag behind the internet these days as this comparison is just being published in the February 2013 issue of MotorTrend magazine. Nothing much has changed since first reported but BimmerBoost has the whole magazine spread to post now with all the data. The Audi S8 is simply lighter, faster, and better than the Alpina B7 based on the F01 750. ...Published on 12-27-2012 12:20 AM
Ford really upped the game with the 2013 Mustange GT500. Displacement of the V8 was increased to 5.8 liters and with some new tuning and more boost the car now puts out 662 horsepower in stock form. That is simply a hell of a lot of power from a factory car. The C63 AMG is severely outgunned in this matchup on paper rated at only 451 horsepower. That is 211 less horsepower for the German muscle car. ...Published on 12-26-2012 11:22 PM
Car and Driver finally was able to test the 2013 Boxster S with the PDK dual clutch transmission. Unsurprisingly, it is quicker than the manual version although the two are not too far off from one another. Also unfortunately both cars were not tested on the same day but one can still get an idea. The PDK car is 2/10's faster to 60 than the 2013 Boxster S manual and maintains that 2/10's lead through the 1/4 mile with a 12.7@111 versus 12.9@111 that they hit with the manual. ...Published on 12-26-2012 07:00 PM
More info is trickling out on the upcoming Audi hybrid diesel supercar set to be slotted above the R8. The car will utilize technology from the R18 E-Tron race cars. The name for this vehicle is now said to be "R20" placing it numerically above the R18 Le Mans car. Apparently this is because the car will be styled similar to a Le Mans vehicle complete with a full aerodynamic tailfin just like the real deal R18. ...Published on 12-26-2012 12:03 AM
Here is a nice Christmas gift from Mercedes who seemingly leaked these official photos out. The pictures show the new Mercedes-Benz CLA and it quite simply looks fantastic. The styling is very aggressive and modern partially thanks to the AMG style body kit the car is wearing. The interior is very nice as well showing beautiful stitching along with a very clean and elegant layout. Quite simply, the CLA is beautiful inside and out. ...Published on 12-24-2012 09:50 PM
Very surprising race here with an ESS VT2-625 supercharged M3 taken down by an all motor LS3 Camaro SS. On paper, this race should easily go the M3's way considering it is claimed to have 570 wheel horsepower at 7.5 psi and also being the significantly lighter car. 570 wheel with a dual clutch transmission is good for 130 MPH trap speeds which a 520 wheel Camaro SS won't match. More power, less weight, dual clutch trans, the M3 should win rather easily. So what gives? ...Published on 12-24-2012 07:51 PM
The Porsche entry-level sedan named Pajun is set to get the green light for production and will come by 2016. That seems a while off considering the Macan entry-level SUV and Cayenne little brother should be revealed as early as next year. Apparently Porsche wants to evaluate the model for around a year. The Pajun would no doubt mirror the drivetrain offering of the Macan which means 2.0 liter four-cylinder powerplants borrowed from the Audi/VW catalog and Porsche's own 3.6 liter turbo V6 version based on the Panamera V6. ...Published on 12-24-2012 07:02 PM
This is a very nice run showing a tuned car, in this case the C63 AMG, versus the brand new F10 M5 with its beastly underrated S63tu twin turbo V8 putting out 527 rear wheel horsepower stock. The C63 AMG is running a tune from OE Tuning and it is impressive the way the Mercedes M156 naturally aspirated V8 with less power than the F10 M5 even with a tune runs door to door with it. Additionally, the C63 AMG does not have the quick shifting dual clutch transmission. ...Published on 12-24-2012 06:01 PM
Audi in a recent teaser showed four new models coming for 2013. The first model is revealed in the teaser making it quite obvious, the RS5 convertible. The model to its left is fairly obvious as well, the new RS6 Avant. That leaves two models under the covers that are not accounted for. What is very interesting is that clearly one of those models is a sport utility based vehicle which has to be based on either the Q3 or Q5. ...Published on 12-23-2012 06:21 PM
The M6 in this video is an F12 which means it is a convertible. It also means it is a bit heavier than the coupe with a curb weight of 4312 pounds versus 4088 for the coupe. Realistically though, even if the M6 in the video was the lighter coupe it would still get beaten by this Z06 just not as badly. The Z06 in the video simply pulls away rather easily even when the M6 gets the jump and it makes one scratch their head as to why a video M5board was promoting showed a C6 Z06 with a tune struggling against a stock F10 M5 which features the exact same S63TU Twin Turbo V8 as this M6. ...Published on 12-23-2012 04:53 PM
The 24 Hours of Le Mans has basically belonged to Audi. They flat out own this race winning year after year. The R18 E-Tron Quattro won last year in its first year of competition and Audi will be fielding an all E-Tron LMP-1 lineup for the 2013 24 Hours of Le Mans with three cars. The non-hybrid R18 Ultra's fielded last year will not be used. It is likely Audi will repeat for their 12th 24 Hours of Le Mans overall victory as they plan to make tweaks the R18 E-Tron increasing energy storage which would put them only four behind Porsche for most victories all time. ...
