So, retirement from professional racing for Michael Schumacher is not all that bad. As you know Schumacher announced his retirement from Formula 1 last year after Mercedes-Benz signed Lewis Hamilton. There were questions as to whether Schumacher would move to another series or take on some other capacity. Schumacher will officially take up a role which has not been specified with Mercedes-Benz road cars although one can assume he will be doing test driving and giving feedback much in a similar manner to Walter Rohrl for Porsche. ...Published on 02-06-2013 08:10 PM
Very good news here for Golf Diesel fans. You may remember a VWBoost article last month on the MKVI Golf GTD which unfortunately is for European customers only. Well, with the new MKVII Golf it seems the USA will not be skipped over when it comes to a hotter diesel Golf. Additionally, the car is to get more power with 180 horses (up from 168) and 280 pound-feet of torque (up from 258 pound-feet of torque). ...Published on 02-06-2013 06:41 PM
So the internet all of a sudden is acting like the 3-Series GT design was just revealed. The car design was leaked already in December of last year but here we have official photos from BMW of the F34 335i GT model. And it's just ugly, it's really damn ugly. The 5-Series GT already is a failure but BMW wants to try again to create a niche nobody wants. Whomever it was at BMW that thought putting the poorly developed offspring of a 3-Series hatch and a wagon into production needs to be let go. ...Published on 02-06-2013 12:15 PM
It seems Porsche dealers in Europe are contacting their known clientele in order to get them to order the 2014 991 GT3 already. Information obtained in an e-mail from a user contacted is that the motor will be a 3.8 liter flat-6 using the GT1 block still (thank goodness) with dry sump naturally putting out 450 horsepower. This matches previous info although output was expected to be in the 470 horsepower range. ...Published on 02-06-2013 04:51 AM
Well it seems this week BMW believes making an M version of the i8 hybrid is a good idea. What's amusing about this? Well, it's being reported by CAR Magazine. Why is that funny? Because CAR Magazine is the same magazine that said no M version of the i8 was coming. It's to the point that nobody really knows what the hell is going on but this is fun to report because it drums up interest and for CAR, most importantly to them, magazine sales. ...Published on 02-06-2013 03:30 AM
Another day another round of Porsche 991 Turbo spyphotos. These latest pictures show the final Winter testing undergoing completion. Current expected output from the 991 Turbo is in the 530-550 horsepower range of course mated to all wheel drive and featuring a 7-speed PDK but a 7-speed manual will also be optional. In the video below from December of last year the 991 Turbo sure looks ready for business so the question becomes, when do we see it? ...Published on 02-06-2013 02:41 AM
Just a few days ago a misleading video was posted of a Tesla Model S beating a new bi-turbo E63 AMG in a "drag" race. The drag race was not one on the drag strip and it hardly went long enough favoring the lower trap speed / lower top end of the Tesla Model S over the E63 AMG. The fact is, when a Tesla Model S lines up on a drag strip versus an E63 AMG as it did here it is going to get flat out smacked right across its electric behind. ...Published on 02-05-2013 11:11 PM
The 4.0 TFSI V8 in several Audi models is going to become a popular tuner platform due to having top mounted twin turbos and of course due to being in a few Audi models those being S6, S7, and A8 4.0 TFSI. The car in the video is an S7 4.0 TFSI and does not have any additional modifications other than the APR software. No word on the power gains, pricing, or fuel used in the video but the car clearly hustles. ...Published on 02-05-2013 07:10 PM
There was a time when the idea of a Porsche SUV was met with snorts of derision as if it was beneath the company somehow. That discussion and debate is long over and luxury sport utilities are not only here to stay but often the best selling models a brand has to offer. So Bentley wants to get in on the luxury sport utility mix and the Volkswagen board has finished debating the issue. The Bentley SUV has the green light, it's coming. ...Published on 02-05-2013 06:04 PM
Mercedes-Benz struggled in Formula 1 last year. They expect big things with their new car and new drivers this year. As you likely remember, Michael Schumacher is out replaced by Lewis Hamilton who will pair with Nico Rosberg for the Mercedes-Petronas team. Mercedes-Benz spent $100 million for their new driver and also purchased the remaining 40% stake in the team in order for Daimler to have sole control and ownership of the team. ...Published on 02-05-2013 05:12 PM
Some good laughs as well as driving in this video courtesy of Team Door Bangers. The premise is simple, use a BMW to deliver in a pizza in a certain allotted amount of time. Spice it up though by having that BMW be a stripped out E46 set up for the track and it makes for some awesome action shots and funny moments. Who wouldn't want to be a delivery boy for an hour when getting to drive some seriously fun hardware while doing so? ...Published on 02-04-2013 08:31 PM
Audi's attitude certainly is showing and rightfully so with the giant steps forward the brand has taken as of late. Their Super Bowl ad titled "Prom" fits the culture Audi is cultivating promoting brave attitude in styling and performance. The commercial features a young man who does not have a date to his high school prom and his father (as a good father should) tosses him the keys to his new Audi S8 telling him to have fun... which he certainly does. ...Published on 02-04-2013 06:29 PM
Nice promotional video here for the new facelifted E63 AMG models. The video shows the sedan and wagon in standard E63 AMG trim as well as the optional "S" package which offers 4Matic all wheel drive an 585 horsepower. The S AMG package is denoted with new badging which simply places the letter on a black background next to the AMG logo so people know you spent more money and have more horsepower than just the "regular' E63 AMG. ...Published on 02-04-2013 05:50 PM
What is going on here? AMG continues to lose engineers and important personnel to the competition. AMG recently lost their engine guru Friedrich Eichler who is responsible for many of the excellent new AMG powerplants to the Volkswagen Group and now chassis engineer Arnd Meyer is gone. This makes for two high profile engineering losses at AMG within a month span. One way to positively look at it is AMG's competitors want who AMG has and clearly AMG has really stepped their performance game up getting a lot of attention. ...Published on 02-03-2013 01:32 AM
This is kind of an odd result. Lately, BMW has been losing a lot of comparison tests. Based on the numbers in this one as well as what the author writes, the Audi S7 should really be the winner. It's the quickest and fastest through the 1/4 mile. It is the best handling of the three with the highest skidpad number (tied with the 650i) and the quickest through the figure eight test. And with a price just under $30k less (yes $30k!) as tested than the 650i why in the world did it come in second? ...Published on 02-03-2013 01:26 AM
Tuning a car remotely is not the headache it once was, not even close. These days thank to quick internet access one can get a remote tune done even with a cellular data connection. Check out what Evolve was able to do remotely here an E60 M5 with Dinan intake, Dinan exhaust, and Supersprint headers. Change of 26.8 wheel horsepower at peak with the only difference being the Evolve Automotive remote software tune. ...Published on 02-02-2013 11:50 PM
Mercedes-Benz just keeps upping the ante on their AMG models including the C63 AMG in particular with updates and special edition models. They have not left the car stagnant like their competition (*cough* BMW *cough*) and the limited special edition models like the Black Series as well as this one actually are pretty special. The main difference for this car is getting the stronger and lighter internal engine components from the SLS AMG M159 V8 (known as the P31 package) standard allowing a boost to 507 horsepower from 451. ...Published on 01-31-2013 01:22 PM
You just could not make this stuff up even if you tried. So, ESS-Tuning (who must love reading BimmerBoost) took a look at this article regarding the posted e-mails from Asbjorn@ESS and decided to continue berating Evolve Automotive as well as their former customer for daring to try a different tune with the hardware that he purchased and is his property to use and tune in whatever manner he pleases. This rather than taking the high road and apologizing, who would have guessed? ...Published on 01-31-2013 12:40 PM
Was somebody saying the horsepower war is dead? Because it just seems to be intensifying. Audi appears to be responding to the E63/CLS63 AMG facelift which will have all wheel drive and 585 horsepower in optional S-trim. 600 horsepower would put the RS6 at the top of the mid-size luxury performance sport sedan game especially when combined with Audi's Quattro. Audi seems to be determined to not be one-upped by anyone. ...Published on 01-31-2013 12:00 AM
Interesting matchup here between a 2011 E92 335is with a Renntech tune on its N54 motor with DCT transmission and Dinan exhaust versus a stock 2013 Mustange Boss 302 with drag radials. This drag race takes place at Palm Beach International Raceway in Florida and it appears to be a warm/humid day with density altitude stated to be at 2000+. The 335is is able to just edge out the Mustang in ET (despite redlighting) with a 12.40@111 to the Mustang's 12.42@113. ...
