Score another victory for BMW Motorsport, the Z4 GT3 won by over 4 laps in the 24 hour race. The car was driven by ALMS driver Tommy Milner as well as Augusto Farfas, Claudia Hurtgen, and Edward Sandstrom. The Z4 controlled the race nearly from the beginning when the pole setting Reiter Gallardo was forced to retire due to engine trouble. The other Z4 GT3 which was the sister car run by Turner Motorsport finished in 5th despite several issues including an accident and a cracked header. Congratulations to the Schubert racing team and BMW!

The Germany Magazine AutoBild has compared the TT-RS to the Audi RS5. We are a bit surprised with the results as they show the TT-RS as blazing fast running through 402 meters which is a 1/4 mile in 12.2 seconds. That, is very, very fast and faster than the RS5 which has more power although is much heavier. Both cars use DSG transmissions which may account for the great times. Still, the TT-RS does 0-100 mph in under 10 seconds which makes it quite quick as well as out accelerating the RS5 in every test. We must say we are very, very impressed and hope these numbers can be replicated. ...Published on 01-14-2011 09:41 PM
Autoweek recently tested the new CLS 63 AMG. We have been waiting to see numbers out of this motor and now we have something to go on: 12.1@121.5. Now, it is important to note this was achieved with their test equipment. This most likely means something like a VBOX which inflates trap speeds. However, the test was done at 4000 feet elevation which will have an effect even on turbo motors. This was also the standard version without the performance package which ups power to around 550 horsepower. What this means is these cars will run 11's out of the box and the performance package will likely be trapping over 125 mph. With a tune... well, things are going to get very interesting indeed. ...Published on 01-14-2011 06:06 PM
The BMW X1 is already available for sale around the globe. It was supposed to be available in the largest market for the SUV, the United States, in the beginning of this year. Strong demand has the factory in Europe at full capacity. Unlike the X3, X5, and X6 built in the United States the X1 is built in Germany likely because it has far more in common with the chassis of the regular cars instead of the SUV's. If sales continue to be strong, it may even be delayed further than the fall. ...Published on 01-14-2011 04:05 PM

Well, here is another M156 / 63 AMG supercharger setup. This one comes from Xtra Power (creative name, eh?) who we have never heard of. There are no boost numbers or pricing details given. The only details provided are that this puts out 660 horsepower with 595 pound-feet of torque and is available for all 63 AMG models. They also state that more horsepower is available with aftermarket cams and headers although no details on their cams or headers are provided. Is this legit? We do not know, but the forced induction scene for the M156 sure is heating up. ...Published on 01-14-2011 12:00 AM
AWE Tuning has released their intake for the new Audi S4. The intake retains the factory heat shielding. Gains are claimed to be 15 horsepower at the crank. AWE was nice enough to include a dyno at the wheels which we appreciate. Gain is 9 whp at all 4 wheels on 93 octane. The intake is priced at $287.95. Specs: ...Published on 01-13-2011 02:28 PM
Let's be realistic, the majority of aftermarket companies do not last. Many come and go likely before we even get a chance to hear about them. It is even more difficult for those that specialize in forced induction on BMW's. Boosting M motors and BMW NA motors in general has never been easy and few have been around as long as Active Autowerke. AA has been around since 1981 and is older than many of the people on this site including myself. Active has done some top builds that captivate the community such as TazaM3's custom E46 M3 turbo which is one of the most powerful BMW's in the world. We would like to congratulate Active Autowerke on 30 great years and state the BMW performance world is better thanks to their involvement. Here is to 30 more! ...Published on 01-13-2011 01:15 PM
Autoweek is reporting the SLK55 will not get a twin turbo V8 as rumored but instead Mercedes will reveal a tweaked 5.5 liter naturally aspirated V8 putting out over 400 horsepower. It is rumored this motor will find its way into the C63 AMG coupe which does not make much sense to us. We can can understand holding the SLK back from being a fire-breathing monster annihilating everything in the Mercedes lineup (come on Benz, do it) but holding the C AMG coupe back does not make sense to us. Why should the sedan an coupe have different motors? ...Published on 01-13-2011 12:25 PM
The new SLK is officially on sale. Mercedes is taking order this month for the hot new roadster. The SLK will be offered with a direct injection version of the 3.5 liter V6 putting out 306 horsepower. This SLK350 will be the range topping version until the AMG version hits sometimes later. SLK200 and SLK250 versions will fill out the rest of the range.

This project caught our eye. The C-class and the SLK both got the M112 Supercharged 3.2 liter V6. The CLK did not get this motor as it received a V8. Dynomite05 purchased a used SLK32 motor with 31k on it for around $3k and decided to push ahead with the swap. The motor will be modified with a eurocharged heat exhanger, johnson CM30 IC pump, aftermarket intake, and an aftermarket supercharger pulley. We will keep you updated on the progress, here are the pictures so far: ...Published on 01-12-2011 12:45 PM
OE Tuning recently tuned a GL550 in Northern California at 034 Motorsport. The GL550 is all wheel drive so keep in mind these gains are at all 4 wheels. Also, this tuning was done on 91 octane pump gas. Peak gains of 18 wheel horsepower and 20 wheel torque were seen. The dyno used is a dynomite. ...Published on 01-12-2011 12:07 PM
Steve (M5junky) sent us these pictures with permission to post them. These pictures reveal the state his E60 M5 was in after having spent about 2 years at ASR Engineering. The car was sent there for a twin turbo built motor setup as most of you know and nothing was done. Well, nothing other than stripping the car the car down and leaving it a huge mess. The transmission was pulled and looks to be left stock. The motor was pulled and not built as agreed. The engine bay, well, you can see for yourself. ...Published on 01-12-2011 11:37 AM
As a lot of you know I live in Johannesburg South Africa which is 5500ft above sea level. Tuning of the car is a work in progress but I got a opportunity today to give the car a run on a dyno just to see where I am at with my "street" map. Runs where done with 93 and meth (CM10) and the temp was 30 degrees celsius with no cooling of the car. We have not touched the tuning much above 6000rpm as we had to make sure we had the fueling waxed at lower high torque rpms. Boost pressure was set at 19psi and tapered to 15psi at the higher rpm. The timing is also very conservative and I am confident to say that we can push 475whp in race trim comfortably. So far Chip Logic does not seem to have hit any barriers in the tuning of larger turbos using flash software. ...Published on 01-12-2011 11:11 AM
Anderson Germany tunes the V12 TDI to be exact. The stock motors already puts out insane torque and horsepower but the Anderson tune bumps it up to 550 horsepower from 500. On the exterior, carbon fiber accents are added as well as a new grille, mirror housing, rear diffuser, and roof rails. A set of 22 inch rims are added with 295 width tires to put down all that torque. The interior is very well done with custom stitching and accents. Check out the pictures: ...Published on 01-12-2011 12:55 AM
Car and Driver is reporting that their source in Germany has learned that Audi has registered the SQ5 and RSQ5 names with the copyright authorities in Germany. This does not necessarily mean that these models are coming but definitely is a good sign. In the entry level SUV segment there is no German performance model. The M and AMG models are for the larger ML and X5/X6 models, not the X3 which is slotted against the Q5. We like that Audi is considering a performance variant of their smallest and lightest SUV. We will keep you updated on what happens but we say, bring the SQ5 and RSQ5 on! ...Published on 01-11-2011 06:21 PM
Well, it would seem BMW is phasing out yet another naturally aspirated powerplant in one of their models. Not much of a surprise to us, we know bimmer boost is the future. There are very few details on the new poweplant other than it will be the new base motor and should likely be the replacement for the N52 across the board in the future. Rumors are around 200 horsepower but we will know more when the engine is officially unveiled. It would also not surprise us if this motor was in Mini models as well. ...
