Finishing second in the second race, Dutch BMW racing driver Tom Coronel ended up on the podium during the opening weekend of the 2011 FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). In the first race in Brazil, Coronel finished fourth. In the second race, he had a great start leading much of the way, but finished second behind Alain Menu. The 38-year old Dutch driver, who had his first races with the BMW 320 TC with the new 1.6 litre turbocharged engine, stated, “These are the results that give ROAL Motorsport, BMW and myself the confidence that we need for the races to come. The Daimler corporation announced today it will provide two million Euros to aid Japan in the aftermath of the terrible earthquake and tsunami. The Chairman of the Daimler managing board Dr. Zetsche stated the following, "The consequences of the earthquake in Japan are still hard to comprehend. This is all the more reason for us to demonstrate our active solidarity with the people affected by making this donation." At long last here it is, the real thing, the new C63 AMG Coupe. Hear that? It's the sound of BMW executives sphincters tightening. We all know how the C63 sedan stacks up to the M3. Well, soon we will all see how the coupe does and considering the P31 performance package is available for the coupe bumping horsepower to around 480... it does not look good for the M3. What a start to the ALMS season! BMW has finished 1st and 2nd in the GT class. It was a hard fought battle, with the the Ferrari 458 leading at the halfway point and BMW running in 2nd and 3rd. In the next 6 hours, the M3's put up a strong showing. The number 56 car driven by Joey Hand set the fastest lap in the GT class with a time of 2:01.56. Ex-BMW Driver (traitor jk) Tommy Milner finished in 3rd place in his new Corvette C6 ZR. Elite Motorsports did a 93 octane APR tune on a B8 S4 they had in the shop. They did not get a baseline but B8 S4's tend to put down in the ~320 all wheel horsepower range stock on a dynojet. With the tune, the car hit 357 whp so gains of a little over 30 at all four wheels. Definitely nice, but we have another set of results on a Mustang which show much larger gains. We are guessing that is due to the exhaust on the car and the calibration of this Dyno Dynamics whose correction factor we do not know. ...Published on 03-19-2011 07:00 AM
These pictures and video of this awesome 9 second E36 were sent to us by BimmerBoost member S50B32turbo. Yes, his username is the same as his motor. The car has dyno'd 865 wheel horsepower at 28.5 psi. Turbo is a Precision PT-76 on a built lower compression motor featuring 1680 cc injectors all of which is mated to a T56 transmission. If you watch these videos they are going to make you want to attend the AMG Driving Academy so be warned. We reported a week ago that the SLS GT3 would be joining the AMG Driving Academy offering. You can see a teaser of that in the video as well as the other programs offered. An EAS customer was one of the first to get the BMW Performance exhaust for the E92 M3. EAS did the install and posted the photos which you can view below. The exhaust was also coated with a black ceramic coating to give it a stealthy and different look. Ok, this isn't exactly a CLK63 Black Series Cab. It is based on a CLK55 on has been modified to look like a CLK63 Black Series by using the coupe body panels. We believe MH-Car design is responsible for the modifications. The car is currently for sale 70,000 Euros. The German publication AutoZeitung released a rendering and specifications for the upcoming Audi S8. The rendering itself is average at best somewhat marred by their watermark right through the middle. Still, it gives you somewhat of an idea as to what it will look like. Insideline posted a great suspension walkaround for the new SLS AMG. They basically take an SLS and put it up on jackstands analyzing the suspension components. As we all know, a terrible tragedy has struck Japan. The BMW group has stepped up to do the right thing (among record profits) to donate 1 million Euro to aid in disaster relief. Dr. Norbert Reithofer stated the following, "We are deeply moved by the horrific suffering in the affected regions. During this difficult time, our thoughts and sympathies are with the Japanese people.” BMW is supporting its Japanese workforce during this period. Stuart Appleby, the professional golfer, is quite the BMW fan. He has had several highly modified and higly publicized BMW's. He also goes by the name of apples on M5board. Well, the Australian shop Southern Rod tranformed one of his E39 M5's into a truck. Australians love this kind of stuff, seriously. The motor is the S62 V8 in modified form with a tune and full exhaust. Autoweek is reporting that development started on a performance crossover SUV aimed squarely at the X6. Unlike the X6 when it launched, this will be a 5 seater. It will most likely be based on the Porsche Cayenne platform which has us intrigued. Oh, and an RS Q6 model may be coming which will be designed to compete with the X6 M using the new 4.0 turbo V8. Good news, the Audi R8 GT is coming to the US. The bad news? Only 99 are coming and at over $196,800 a pop. The car has the V10 5.2 FSI it shares with the Gallardo but in a higher state of tune of 560 horsepower vs. the regular V10 R8's. It is 180 pounds lighter thanks to the various lightweight parts. This is some very interesting news. Kleemann will be distributing and installing Xtra-Power systems from their Colorado Springs, Colorado facility. Dyno numbers are 610 wheel horsepower which is definitely some good power but the pricetag for the SLS supercharger setup is $32k installed. SLS tax? The S550 is still badged S500 in the rest of the world just in case this might have been confusing for some of you. Inden Design has modified the S500/550 by tweaking the motor up to 420 horesepower with a tune and exhaust upgrade. The rest of the modification are done to the outside with a new front spoiler, side skirts, and rear diffuser to house the custom exhaust. The S85 motor really deserves more love. Projects like this remind us that if BMW wanted to, they could have shoved that V10 in the M3 and abused almost any of their competition. But BMW didn't, so we are thankful for enthusiasts who are willing to step up to the plate. This swap was done using a Pectecl SQ6M ECU and to have the dash fully compatible it was swapped out for a Cosworth Dash. That is likely the first reaction from most people when they see these photos. Relax, BMW has not gone that far off the deep end (yet). Although the idea of an M pick-up truck is kind of fun actually that is not what is happening here. Manufacturers do rigidity testing in a variety of ways and what you see here is a chassis flex text with the car being basically cut from the door pillar. Do you see a bed? Do you see a tailgate? Nope, because it isn't a BMW truck. Calm down internet. ...
