Yes, Mercedes-Benz will be bringing an S-Class coupe with the next generation W222 S-Class. The S-Class will no longer be just a sedan but also a coupe and a convertible which was spotted testing last year. The demise of Maybach has made it so that Mercedes-Benz wants to stretch the W222 S-Class platform as much as possible with many different variants. This also means there will be no more CL-Class and that name much like the CLK will be dropped. ...Published on 02-20-2013 01:42 PM
Audi was quick to jump on the announcement after the press photos of the RS Q3 leaked out yesterday. Initially thoughts were that the car would mirror the concept but there are some significant changes. No 360 horsepower from the 2.5 liter inline-5 engine. Instead, power is set at 310 horses apparently in order to avoid stepping on the toes of the SQ5. That's fine, nothing an aftermarket tune won't be able to fix meaning a lot be gained software only on this car. ...Published on 02-20-2013 01:31 PM
Quick little comparison here on the track by Auto Express of the 991 Carrera 4S and the facelifted Audi R8 4.2 V8. The R8 4.2 V8 now has a 7-speed S-Tronic dual clutch transmission which is the main change as the 430 horsepower 4.2 liter FSI V8 remains. The 991 has the PDK option so it also has a 7-speed dual clutch gearbox making the transmissions even between the two with no advantage in this area. Both vehicles also have all wheel drive. ...Published on 02-19-2013 11:10 PM
This video makes one scratch their head a bit and is causing some rage on the GT-R forums. Not because the idea of the M6 winning a roll on sprint versus the 2012 GTR is not possible but in the way it happens in this video. The M6 literally just runs away from the GT-R from a 2nd gear roll. Now, the M6 does put down more power than the GT-R stock for stock, roughly 70 more wheel horsepower. It is heavier however with a curb weight of 4088 pounds versus the GTR's 3859 pound curb weight. ...Published on 02-19-2013 07:31 PM
Mercedes-Benz is quite serious about adding 4Matic all wheel drive to its AMG performance lineup. The E63 and CLS63 AMG facelifts bring optional 4Matic all wheel drive to those models. The A45 AMG comes with 4Matic all wheel drive standard. The upcoming CLA45 AMG will also have 4Matic all wheel drive standard. Whether one likes it or not all wheel drive is becoming a staple of the AMG performance division and the next generation C63 is a definitely a possibility. ...Published on 02-19-2013 06:00 PM
So more 991 GT3 info is getting out and this time courtesy of a Rennlist member we have some photographic evidence to go along with it. Let's start with the most noticeable which is the 9000 rpm redline. PorscheBoost can not think of a production six cylinder motor for a street car with a higher redline. The last time 9000 rpm was seen in something without a prancing horse and 1/4 million dollar price tag happened to be the Honda S2000 which did it with a much smaller 2.0 liter four-cylinder motor and Honda actually ended up reducing the redline. This motor is going to have insane top end pull. ...Published on 02-19-2013 05:32 PM
Well here is the the 2014 RS Q3 which leaked out a little bit early. Audi stated four RS models would be revealed this year and that makes this the RS Q3 the final model. The previous three being the RS5 convertible, the RS6, and the new RS7. As AudiBoost correctly guessed once the SQ5 made its debut and was announced as slated for the USA the RS Q3 made the most sense as the final RS model simply having been presented in concept form already. ...Published on 02-19-2013 02:40 AM
It's a sad day for the automotive enthusiast when the friendliest car company to the manual transmission, Porsche, admits that the popularity of the dual clutch transmission offering (PDK) could lead to the death of the manual. Porsche's most hardcore drivers cars such as the GT3 and GT2 can only be had with the a manual transmission for example. With the next generation 2014 991 GT3 however, this is all set to change as the PDK will be available and possibly the only transmission choice. ...Published on 02-19-2013 02:11 AM
Hard to take seriously what is coming out of BMW M head Friedrich Nitschke's mouth regarding BMW's commitment to rear wheel drive. Autocar reports Nitchke made the following statement, “Our philosophy in regards to steering feel and precision is that rear-wheel drive is the best solution. xDrive brings an 80-90kg weight penalty and the M differential is the industry’s best rear-drive set-up.” No disagreement from BimmerBoost here. ...Published on 02-19-2013 12:00 AM
A lot of 4.0 TFSI hype from APR and if it continues to be data and videos of this quality AudiBoost has no problems putting it all up. Simply an incredible result here for a tune only Audi S7 with the APR Stage I software. How about an improvement in the 1/4 mile from the stock 12.216@112.42 to 11.634@117.83? That is just over 5 miles per hour in trap speed and almost 6/10's in elapsed time all on pump 93 octane tune only. Wow. ...Published on 02-18-2013 06:53 PM
Everyone knew that turbo motors in M cars meant far more tuning would be taking place as well as some very big gains. Well, AMS Performance of Nissan GT-R Alpha package fame will be applying their expertise to the S63tu V8 in the F10 M5 as well as the F12/F13 M6. The goal is over 1000 horsepower and BimmerBoost does not doubt it will be achieved although obviously the build process, testing, and development is going to take some time. ...Published on 02-18-2013 06:21 PM
Currently the overall quickest Mercedes-Benz in the world in the 1/4 mile is Renntech's SLR with a time of 9.68@142. Renntech does some incredible work with the supercharged M155K motor (based on the M113K V8 everyone knows and loves from the W211 E55 AMG) in the SLR. The video below features a customers SLR that Renntech took up to the 625 wheel horsepower range with the OEM supercharger still in place which is quite impressive. ...Published on 02-16-2013 05:44 PM
APR sure is hyping their ECU upgrade for the 4.0 TFSI turbo V8 motors in the Audi S6 and A7. Just over a week ago a teaser video was posted showing an overlay of the acceleration between the stock car and the APR tuned car. Yes, quite a large difference between the stock and tuned car. Well, here is another teaser although this time with a dyno graph showing what an APR tuned 4.0 TFSI looks like on 100 octane at all four wheels before/after. ...Published on 02-16-2013 02:51 PM
Very impressive result here for a Weistec Stage 2 supercharged C63 AMG. At Famoso raceway in California this daily driven W204 C63 AMG was able to run 11.07@128.74 with the Stage 2 2.3 liter supercharger system while running 91 octane pump gas. No race gas, no meth injection, just the same performance one can expect day in and day out. The major difference really just being the drag radial rubber used at the strip. ...Published on 02-16-2013 02:19 PM
Here is Active Autowerke's exhaust for the new F20 328i with the turbocharged N20 four-cylinder. The pictures you see below are of the prototype version but the production version should not differ by much and is currently under construction and should be available in two months time. The exhaust alone provides gains of 9 horsepower at the wheels and 13 pound-feet of torque at the wheels as measured on the Active Autowerke Mustang Dyno. ...Published on 02-15-2013 10:33 PM
Here is the official Mecedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series ordering guide obtained thanks to a BenzBoost member who wishes to remain anonymous. The order guide does not specify the exact MSRP for the SLS Black Series other than stating the price will be in the $2XX,XXX range. Basically, expect to pay above a quarter million for the car. Compared to the SL65 AMG Black Series pricing which was in the $320,000 range the SLS Black Series appears to be priced better and also happens to be a better sports car. ...Published on 02-15-2013 09:51 PM
Nice comparison here showing the difference in the top end strength between the S85 V10 in the E60 M5 and the S65 V8 in the E92 M3. Both motors are basically the same thing but the two extra cylinder and extra liter of displacement in the S85 shows quite well in how the M3 is pulled easily from the 50 and 70 mile per hour rolls. Also, the E60 M5 S85 V10 having an Evolve tune while the M3 does not have a tune makes a huge difference. ...Published on 02-14-2013 12:38 PM
Well the downsizing of motors continues and even Mercedes-Benz is not immune as it appears 550 models with the M278 twin turbo and direct injected 4.6 liter V8 will be replaced with a twin turbo 3.0 liter V6 starting in 2014. The motor will only produce 330 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque which is far less than the current E550 puts out which is 402 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. That's a rather large difference between the two. ...Published on 02-14-2013 12:21 PM
Well here is BMW's new race car that is bending the ALMS rules (considering BMW does not sell a Z4 M) the Z4 GTE. If it was not enough for BMW to get away with racing the Z4 without homologation they also increased the displacement to the M3 GTS 4.4 liter spec from the 4.0 liter displacement which last years M3 raced with. Hey, if you are going to bend the rules might as well go all the way with it right? ...Published on 02-13-2013 11:10 PM
Don't get too attached to the car you see here if you live in the USA, you will not be able to buy it. Meet the A45 AMG with 4Matic all wheel drive, a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, and a 360 horsepower M133 2.0 liter turbocharged motor. The 360 horsepower even slightly exceeds the initial 354 horsepower reports for the 2.0 liter turbo motor which is very impressive considering the displacement. 26 pounds of boost from the turbo definitely helps. ...
