By now you have seen the video of the 1M drifting on top of the highest helipad in the world. This video created a ton of speculation that the stunt was faked. Most of the people saying it was fake naturally came from Youtube. The driver was Greg Tracy and you can read his own blog entry about the stunt here. And remember, hitting your head against a brick wall is more productive than reading what people on Youtube have to say about anything. ...Published on 07-06-2011 04:07 PM
Well, finally we get to see what this car looks like and we like what we see. We know the car has the M156 V8 which confirms what we reported over a month ago and a month ahead of every other site. Weight reduction is the goal in the car but we do not have the official (rumors are 44 pounds lighter) weight specs yet. The car has the MCT transmission and not the dual clutch out of the SLS which is a bit of a disappointment. More details to come, but enjoy the pictures for now. ...Published on 07-06-2011 04:05 AM
Theophiluschin rendered his take on an X5 pickup truck. BMW pickup trucks have been in a the news a bit after BMW pulled their April Fools joke with the M3 pickup. The X5 makes a lot more sense for a pickup and the renderer did a good job although we think the 4 door variant doesn't look as good as a two door sport truck would which we have attached a rendering of. Maybe a BMW pickup truck wouldn't be such a bad idea? ...Published on 07-06-2011 02:56 AM
We aren't sure what to say as this has become a repeat pattern now with Singh. They are claiming they are the first tuner to tune the CL63 AMG in North America. Yet, the dyno provided is not a North American dyno. Somebody make sense of that. Also, Singh claims to have tuned a CL550 yet they are waiting for the car to adapt before putting it on the dyno. Huh? So no custom dyno tune? This all just does not make much sense and we would like to see some real proof. ...Published on 07-06-2011 02:55 AM
This info comes courtesy of CAR magazine who spotted the next generation Cayman/Boxster testing. The new Boxster and Cayman will not have the turbo four cylinder right away but instead will stick with the 6 cylinder at first until the facelift for the models in 2015. Why the long delay? We aren't sure but Porsche is likely wanting to get as much as they can monetarily out of the Boxster, Cayman, and 911 all sharing the same 3.4 liter 6 cylinder motor. ...Published on 07-05-2011 07:58 AM
So all the Q3 RS discussion has been confirmed and a prototype does exist. The Q3 launch event was held in Switzerland and Audi decided to show up with a Q3 sporting the TT-RS drivetrain. The small SUV has the 2.5 TFSI turbo 5 cylinder as rumored and it is mated to a 7 speed DSG gearbox. Some people are saying it is detuned to 300 horsepower others are saying it has the full 340 hp. Either way, the car is a year away but it is coming. US prospects are getting dimmer as Audi is likely not to bring this generation of the Q3 over. ...Published on 07-05-2011 07:00 AM
The M3 in this video belongs to BimmerBoost member EugeneTaiwan. Eugene has a low compression built motor Gintani Stage 3 setup paired to a 6 speed manual that he is running on low boost at only 15 psi. He is progressively increasing the boost as he tests it out since the tuning for the Stage 3's is in a process of refinement and evolution. The GTR is tuned and down low the dual clutch transmission helps it out tremendously but up top the M3 runs away decisively. ...Published on 07-05-2011 04:00 AM
The new F12/F13 6 series will get a 640i variant in the USA powered by the N55 3.0 liter direct injected single turbo 6 cylinder with VALVETRONIC. With the previous generation (E63) BMW felt putting the 6 cylinder in the car in the USA would take the car too far down market. With Americans starting to embrace fuel efficiency and the torque the turbo motor offers, the 640i is no longer seen as much of a downgrade. In Europe, the previous generation 6 series was available with the 3.0 liter N52 naturally aspirated 6 cylinder as well as a 6 cylinder diesel. We doubt any diesel variant will make its way over as BMW still thinks Americans do not want diesels. ...Published on 07-05-2011 02:35 AM
This video is reminiscent of the Truth in 24 documentary. As you know by now (you know this by now, right?) Audi won the 2011 Le Mans 24 Hour race despite numerous setbacks which included losing 2 of their 3 cars. This video gives a nice recap and is well worth watching for motorsport or even casual automotive fans alike. ...Published on 07-05-2011 02:18 AM
We haven't seen too much from Gemballa since the death of Uwe Gemballa which of course is understandable. The company is now under the direction Andreas Schwarz who has put out this new "model" based on the Porsche Panamera Turbo. The car specifically features no door handles which apparently is a way to honor Uwe Gemballa who was not a fan of door handles. ...Published on 07-04-2011 11:08 PM
Worldcarfans recently spotted the X204 GLK facelift model testing. Exterior changes to be made are to the front and rear bumpers as well as the lights. As is the style now by almost every manufacturer, LED lights will be added as well. The engine will receive the updated 305 horsepower 3.5 liter direct injected unit paired to a 7 speed automatic. Expect the car next year. ...Published on 07-04-2011 07:43 AM
Hamann revealed the Tycoon Evo M last year. We haven't seen too many details on it since then, namely anything to substantiate the horsepower claims. Here is some proof that the HP kit exists and offers quite a bump. The Evo M features the Hamann Sportkit HM 670 which boosts power to 670 crank horsepower with a cat delete and more aggressive tune. Watch the video to see a 5300 pound SUV launch and hustle pretty damn quickly. ...Published on 07-04-2011 02:50 AM
We are all here because we love cars. We put effort into modifying them and take pride in our ownership experience. We spend countless hours polishing, modifying, researching, tweaking, and just talking about our hobby which we enjoy. That is why can all relate to what this owner must be feeling. He parked the car in his garage and someone broke in to vandalize it. Clearly, someone who knew the owner and was waiting. It's disheartening but remember to be careful, there are unfortunately a lot of people just like the piece of trash who keyed up this M5 who want to try to hurt those who have nice things. ...Published on 07-03-2011 04:51 PM
This is some very serious power especially since it was done in 100 degree weather. The dyno is a Mustang dyno which Todd K (owner of Protomotive) states reads about 80 rwhp lower than dynojets he has dyno'd this upgrade kit on. A stock GT2 put down 440 whp on this same Mustang dyno. The turbos used a GT30 based units, they have also done a GT3586R based setup. ...Published on 07-03-2011 04:43 PM
Bruno Spengler took the pole for this race and made good use of it. Martin Tomczyk was ahead of him in the standings goings into the race but Spengler has now retaken the top position in the driver standings. Mercedes also now increases its lead in manufacturer and team standings. Full race breakdown below, Audi finished 3-4-5. ...Published on 07-03-2011 04:24 PM
Audi was not able to overcome the dominant start positions of the Mercedes cars. Considering that Mercedes had 5 of first 6 starting positions, Audi did quite well to take 3-4-5 for some valuable points in tough, wet conditions. Martin Tomczyk finished in 3rd place which means he will now fall out of the top spot in the driver standings with Bruno Spengler taking over 1st. Back and forth we go... ...Published on 07-03-2011 01:31 AM
As many of you know, BimmerBoost user LostMarine got his 335i Steptronic transmission built by Level 10 to handle increased torque as his upgraded turbos took their toll on the stock transmission. Turn around time was surprisingly quick and should be 10 days and under for all N54 transmission builds. LostMarine had the transmission built along with upgrading the torque converter with a higher stall and the valve body. Price will vary depending on options. ...Published on 07-02-2011 08:04 PM
This is the second straight qualifying pole position for the Canadian Bruno Spegler. Unfortunately, the pole position in the previous race didn't transfer into a victory with him finishing in 3rd place. Audi finishing 1-2 in the previous race has tightened things up with Audi's Tomczyk taking over first in the drivers standings from Spengler. Mercedes is still in first in the team standings, barely. ...Published on 07-02-2011 07:13 AM
A few days ago we told you Audi planned to bring a performance version of the Q3 to market. It didn't take long for renderings of the car to pop up. We don't know if it will be an RS or S model but the graphic design artist decided to go with RS. There are also rumors that it will get the exact same powertrain as the TT-RS meaning 340+ horsepower paired to a 7 speed DSG. ...Published on 07-02-2011 04:53 AM
You would be hard pressed to spot much of a difference between these renderings and the 997. We know from details released there are some significant changes between the 991 and 997. Namely the weight, which has been reduced and the wheelbase, which has been increased. The engine has also been moved forward by about 3 inches reducing the rear overhang. The fuel tank also has been increased by a gallon. ...
